New York, New York..

so good they named it twice. This State cum City is the third most (and probably the densest) populated state in the entire United States of America.

New York State shares it’s borders with New Jersey, the state of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut, New York City, therefore offers many quick and easily accessed getaway routes into the heartland of the USA. Yet, an escape from New York need not be too laborious in order to discover adventure. The state is flanked by both Rhode Island and Long Island as well as the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario.

Deriving it’s name in the 17th century from the then ‘Duke of York’, New York, is world renowned as one of the USA’s cultural hotspots, commanding the respect of the world’s financial institutions (Wall Street) and as a ‘must see’ for tourists entering America via one of it’s most visited eastern port cities. The New York skyline and is the most recognizable port landscape in the world, closely followed by the Port of Liverpool in the UK.

For those interested in history, The State of New York was first claimed by the Dutch settler, Henry Hudson (hence the Hudson River) in 1609, however, it wasn’t long before the British expansionists annexed the Dutch colonies of new Amsterdam, New Netherlands in 1664. The New York Constitution was enacted in 1777 and then ratified in 1788 when New York became the 11th State in the Union.

Upstate New York has many winding rides through the Adirondack Mountains and the Highlands of the Appalachian. Alternatively, if you are looking for lowland roads, then try the Northern and Eastern borders. Some of the landscapes across this Empire state will take in Vineyards, Farmlands and also skirt some fantastic lake-lands, such as Lake Ontario, Lake Erie and Champlain. As well as the already mentioned Hudson, there are other river roads which you can find tracking the Allegheny.

Some of the Main routes to ride in Upstate New York, north of the I-88 include the Mohawk Towpath, the Pepacton Reservoir Loop, Route 443 & Thatcher Park, the Great Sacandaga Lake Loop, Schoharie Valley Loop, New York State Route 166 and Route 80 plus many more. South of the I-88, there are routes such as the Long Island's North Shore, the Eerie Sleepy Hollow tour, the route 27 Montauk Lighthouse Run and a 70 mile long Hudson River Bridge tour which takes in the much loved biker route of the Palisades Parkway, the Alpine Boat Basin and views of Bear Mountain from Route 9-D.
